Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean, remove all the evil of your deeds from before my eyes, cease to do evil, learn to do good, seek justice, bring justice to the fatherless, plead the cause of the widow.
I might have missed something in there, but I think it's pretty close...
"Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name." Psalm 86:11

Another Lake Michigan Sunset
Last night's sunset was pretty awesome. Not sure where the purple came from, there wasn't actually any so my camera must have done that! Made for a nice picture though... The clouds were incredible, all strewn across the sky like that. Wow. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for other amazing sunsets like this one this summer so visit again to see more pictures!

Freedom!
Well, duh, I didn't get any pictures today of me and my class. Oh well. Sad, but life goes on. We did a few little things in the classroom this morning, then they spent about an hour doing a scavenger hunt around the entire building. I made it yesterday...they were looking for all different things related to the church, school, and day care. I had a list of probably 40 questions. They really had a fun time doing it. One of my favorites was "What is Mrs. Wilson's favorite color?" because she doesn't have a favorite so she told each team a different color! For morning break I had Janna Smutz bring in cookies from her Signature Sweets business. They were so yummy! (she makes fabulous homemade cookies, and she delivers. great for any event, let me know if you want more information!) Finished the day playing ImaginIff. Good day, great year.
And even more exciting...I'm going to Florida next week! My good friends Melissa and Andrew are living there for the summer and I am going to see them! I haven't seen them since their wedding almost two years ago. Boy, am I looking forward to the warmth and the sunshine....mmmmm, I can almost feel it already. Woohoo! Freedom!

Proverbs 16:9 and 20:24
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. The steps of man are from the Lord, how then can man understand his way?

Lately
First of all, Felicia and me after field day last Friday. Then, the little podium the kids stood on at their program on Tuesday night. (only one at a time as they had their specific part) Finally, Tim and Sarah showing off their Oreo Klondike bar wrist bands. Sixth graders are so creative.
We also had a chipmunk perched on our windowsill spying on us today, but my camera was in my bag by the window. I was afraid I'd scare him off if I went over their. So, no picture of him, just a cute story.

Proverbs 11:24,28
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give and only suffers want. Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.

Perspectives
Today I split my students into groups and had them discuss the following question: Do you think 18 years old is the appropriate age for voting? I listened in on some of the discussion, and after a bit we came together to share thoughts and opinions. I was interested to find that the majority of my students thought 18 was a great age. In their opinion, 18 year olds are quite mature and ready to make decisions. After all, they are done with high school, have their driver's license, and are making decisions about college, therefore they're certainly mature enough to vote. Well, I listened respectfully to each and every thought and idea, then shared my own thoughts. First I pointed out that they are looking at 18 year olds from six years "below" while I am considering them from six years "above". They took that point very well and realized their views may change over time. I am glad to have discussions and hear what sixth graders think and say about topics we usually only hear adults discussing. I think that if we talked to our young people more about issues such as these, and even more important ones, we can really turn their thinking toward the Truth better. Instead of just telling them what they ought to believe and think, I say it is important to actually sit and talk things out. Sixth graders are humans with thoughts and opinion like anyone else. If we can talk about them now, we have a better chance of pointing those young people in the right direction. When they are older, we can have some hope and confidence that they will make wise decisions.

Matthew 6:32-34
For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
